Latest Ubuntu patches killed Guacamole - I'm in trouble

julianh
Hi All,

I have a problem with my guacamole server, the RDP sessions time out, but it's only happened after I applied the latest security patches to my Guacamole server, Ubuntu 16.04 LS, which worked fine before hand.
I've uploaded the catalina log file from yesterday, at the end of this, and as you can see it's all working fine. I've also uploaded todays, after the update and you can see the lines
"RestrictedGuacamoleHTTPTunnelServlet - Using HTTP tunnel (not WebSocket). Performance may be sub-optimal"

None of the connections work. I only use RDP

I'm in trouble as I need it for next week I have 8 students connecting over it.

I'm no expert in Apache, I suspect i's something to do with that, and proxypass, but I haven't enabled it, I tried, but deleted the section. Ive also uploaded the apache2.conf from /etc/apache2 and the server.xml from opt/apache...21

I think the patches have played with Apache, but my knowledge of apache is very poor.

Please be careful, don't get caught out like me. I'm in real trouble over this, the backup was due to be taken once it was working, this weekend.

I did apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist update

If anyone can help me I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Julian

I've noticed lots of WebSocket errors in the log files. I think that's a clue.

here's the log from when it worked

Yesterday, I rebooted Guacamole, and the error persisted. I was in a hotel accessing it from their wi-fi. I  turned it off in the end, 2 am. Today I turned it on again and it's working fine. I've attached the catalina.out file, and as you can see the connections are being established fine.

However this is used for delegates to connest to my training network, by mortgage depends on it.

Unfortunatley I'm not a massive mutlinational/

Does anyone have any ideas what triggered the problem, and most importantly if I can guarantee it won't happen again.

The catalina.out file is attached.

The Gaucamole is running in a vmware vm with 4 GB ram and 2 cores, but there are only 8 users coming in.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Julian

I updated our Ubuntu 16.04 server over the weekend and haven't had any
issues with guacamole connections afterwards.

If the proxypass module isn't enabled, that's more than likely the
reason you're having issues with spotty connections. Check your
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled folder. Do you see proxy_wstunnel,
proxy_html, proxy_http and a few more proxy_* modules listed?

Thank you Eric,

I've checked the /etc/apache2/mods-enabled folder, and your quite correct, there are no proxu modules there.

So proxy pass isn't enabled and I'm on the wrong track.

Any ideas what caused the problem?

Thanks
